EMG (Electromyography) for Neuropathy and Muscle Disorders
Electromyography (EMG) is a diagnostic investigation carried out to evaluate the health and functioning of muscles and the nerves that regulate their activities. EMG can be used to diagnose disorders such as muscle dysfunction, nerve dysfunction, or problems with signal transmission between the nerves
You might be asked to get an EMG done if you are exhibiting signs and symptoms of a nerve or muscle disorder. Such symptoms include numbness, tingling, muscle pain, cramps or weaknesses, and limb pain.
The results of an EMG help to diagnose or rule out several medical conditions, including muscular dystrophy, polymyositis, myasthenia gravis, carpal tunnel syndrome, peripheral neuropathy, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, herniated disc, and poliomyelitis.
